In May of 2011, The Town of Nashville adopted a Comprehensive Master Plan with a component focusing on economic development efforts entitled, “Economic Development Action Plan” that provides a strategy for improvements within specified areas of town.  The Washington & Barnes Street Business Corridor also known as our Downtown District is an area identified as having significant redevelopment opportunities. According to the 2021 Nashville Comprehensive Plan, the Barnes Street Corridor remains to be identified as an area for significant redevelopment opportunities.

To pursue redevelopment opportunities for the Downtown District, the Nashville Town Council adopted the Municipal Service District on July 1, 2016 to invest in downtown revitalization efforts, including beautification projects, infrastructure improvements, and promoting existing businesses.
